Product Manager, Payments → Platform & AI Workflows
May 2024 – Present · Remote
Digits is a B2B finance platform serving thousands of businesses. Carlos joined through the acquisition of Basis and quickly took ownership of critical product areas, first leading payments and then defining an entirely new AI platform and workflow function.
Payments: Owned the Bill Pay, Invoicing, and Adyen migration roadmap across a 7-person cross-functional team. Paired closely with engineering and design to create intuitive payment workflows, growing annual payment volume 20x in a single year while reducing payment-related support burden by 90%.
Platform & AI Workflows: Identified a company-wide analytics and workflow gap, then defined and built this as a new product area. Created a self-serve analytics and reporting product integrating Claude with warehouse, CRM, call-intelligence, and internal data systems. Built a governed platform where non-technical teams could launch AI-powered internal and customer-facing apps with persistent storage.

Co-Founder, CTO / Head of Product
Jun 2020 – May 2024 · Acquired by Digits
Carlos co-founded Basis with Bebe Kim in 2020 to turn the spreadsheet-heavy world of financial planning, forecasting, and reporting into real-time, intelligent software. As CTO and Head of Product, he owned the full product and engineering function, from roadmap and customer discovery to system design and go-to-market.
Basis grew to 200+ B2B customers with a mix of PLG-style self-serve onboarding and sales-led enterprise deals. The platform connected to 100+ integrations across ERP, CRM, payroll, and finance systems, and featured a real-time modeling engine capable of millions of daily calculations. Despite the integration-heavy complexity, onboarding was shortened to just 5 minutes.
Carlos operated well beyond a traditional product role: leading engineering, partnering on GTM, and working directly with customers. He drove the company through acquisition by Digits in June 2024.

Head of Engineering
Sep 2017 – Mar 2020 · New York, NY
Domio was creating a new category at the intersection of real estate and hospitality. Carlos led a 30+ person engineering organization and played a much broader role than the title suggests: bootstrapping Domio's first product and design function, hiring the first PMs and designers, and partnering directly with the CEO on market discovery, revenue strategy, and product vision.
On the product side, Carlos focused on the booking application, reservations system, and direct-booking growth. He increased direct bookings from 0% to 50% by creating a more seamless booking experience and partnering closely with marketing. He led data science initiatives that drove new market discovery, automated price testing, and supported rapid expansion into 10+ cities.
The work helped enable over $100M in funding and demonstrated Carlos's range across consumer product leadership, growth and monetization, pricing optimization, and executive decision-making.

Personal AI Product Project
2024 · Side Project
Simmer is a personal project born from a real need: preserving and rediscovering family recipes in a way that feels natural and thoughtful. It's an AI-powered recipe app built in TypeScript that captures recipes from any source, organizes them intelligently, and can generate new recipes from scratch using an AI chef.
The project reflects Carlos's product instincts applied to a personal problem. Every interaction is designed to feel considered: from how recipes are imported to how the AI suggests variations. It's a signal of product taste, applied AI thinking, and the instinct to build when a problem is worth solving.

Earlier Experience
Software Engineer → Software Engineer II
Jun 2014 – May 2016 · San Francisco & New York
Helped launch the first version of UberEATS and built core infrastructure across the Communications Platform, UberRUSH, and UberEATS. Developed real-time middleware for dispatch and logistics, led the Pricing Engine project for flexible multi-leg pricing, and built fault-tolerant messaging systems delivering notifications to millions of users. A technical foundation in high-scale, product-rich environments.
About
I've spent my career at the intersection of product strategy, technical systems, and design quality. I started as an engineer building high-scale infrastructure at Uber, then moved into leadership roles where I could shape not just what got built, but why.
Co-founding Basis taught me how to operate across every dimension of a product company: roadmap, architecture, customer discovery, hiring, GTM, and the hard decisions that come with building something from zero. Leading it to acquisition reinforced that great products come from strong judgment, not just strong process.
I'm drawn to ambiguous, cross-functional, and systems-heavy environments where product leadership requires both strategic thinking and hands-on depth. I care about workflow simplification, intuitive product surfaces, and building things that compound rather than just ship.
Outside of work, I mentor current Carnegie Mellon students on career development, helping them navigate the transition from engineering into product, startup, and leadership paths.
